How to Tie a Sailor Scarf
Our sailor scarves always come pre tied, but if you ever need to undo yours for any reasons, here's how to tie it back to perfection.
1. Lay the scarf flat and center it behind your neck.
2. Bring both ends around to the front.
3. Insert both tips into complimentary fabric cincher, then simply pull both ends out. OR Tie in a simple square knot (right over left, then left over right).
4. Adjust the ends so they fall neatly and symmetrically, rotating each tips until their rounded side faces up.
5. If styling with a collar, tuck the ends under lightly so they lie flat.
💡 Pro tip: If the scarf looks too long, you can fold it before tying so the ends sit more compact OR use a safety pin to gather the extra fabric at the back.

📏 Measuring for Best Fit & Comfort
Getting measurements right can prevent returns and frustration:
-Use a soft tape measure that bends easily around curves.
-Head circumference: Wrap just above your eyebrows and ears (for hats/scarves).
-Write down your measurements (in cm or in) and compare them to the product specs—never rely on “small, medium, large” at a glance alone.
-If you fall between sizes: size up. It’s always easier to take in fabric than stretch it out.

Ironing your sailor hat back into shape
Over time, or through the shipping process, even a well-made hat can lose some of its sharpness. Don’t worry — it’s easy to bring it back to life with a little steam and know-how.
Step 1 — Prep the Hat
-Place it on a stable, heat-resistant surface (like an ironing board or thick towel).
Step 2 — Position for Pressing
-Lay the hat gently on its side so the inner wall of the crown faces upward.
-Smooth out any folds with your hand before pressing.
Step 3 — Steam & Press from the Inside
-Set your iron to a medium-high steam setting.
-Place the iron inside the crown wall, pressing gently while releasing steam.
-Slowly rotate the hat as you go, pressing section by section around the inner wall.
-Avoid pressing the outer surface directly — this protects the fabric finish and bias tape.
Step 4 — Shape & Cool
-Once you’ve gone around the full circle, use your hands to gently refine the crown shape.
-Let the hat sit upright and cool completely — this sets the structure in place.
🧵 Care & Maintenance
Your EXILESTAR garments (and accessories) deserve careful handling. Here’s how to keep them crisp and beautiful:
-Spot-clean only for minor stains — avoid harsh scrubbing.
-Steam gently rather than aggressively iron, especially near edges or trims, increase heat if needed, but never go above "cotton" setting on your steaming iron.
-Store flat or on padded hangers — don’t fold in ways that crease sharp lines.
-Avoid folding or crushing structured parts (collars, hats) when packing or storing.
-Use cold water or gentle cycles (if machine washing is allowed) and wash inside-out.
